Mastering SWE — Terms of Service

Last updated: October 22, 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

By creating an account or using Mastering SWE, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Mastering SWE (the "Service") is the website at masteringswe.com and its related community spaces. It is operated by Mastering SWE LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company ("Mastering SWE," "we," "us"). "You" means the person using the Service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information and is part of these terms.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use it only with a parent or guardian's permission.

  • One person, one account. Accounts are personal. Do not share your login or let others use your account.
  • Accurate information. Give us a valid email address and keep it current. We use it for sign-in, billing and important notices.
  • Security. Keep your password confidential, or, if you sign in with Google or GitHub, keep that account secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at rawswe@masteringswe.com if you think someone else has accessed it.

3. The Service

Mastering SWE is a study tool for software engineering interviews. It includes:

  • Knowledge cards organized into decks (for example Java, SQL, System Design and React).
  • Spaced repetition that schedules cards for review based on how you rate your recall.
  • Learning paths: roadmaps that lay out, stage by stage, the topics to learn, outside resources to learn them from, and the decks to study.
  • Community access for Pro subscribers, such as a Discord server and scheduled group calls, where offered.

We add, change and remove cards, decks and features over time. We may also limit or discontinue parts of the Service. If we discontinue a paid feature you rely on, we will try to give reasonable notice.

4. Free plan and card unlocks

A free account lets you unlock up to 20 cards. Opening a card for the first time uses one unlock, whether you open it from a deck or it is served to you in a study session. Reopening a card you have already unlocked is free.

Cards you unlock on the free plan stay available to you for as long as your account is active, including after a paid subscription ends. Unlocks cannot be transferred, exchanged or reset. We may change the number of free unlocks for new accounts, but we will not take away cards you have already unlocked, except as described in Section 13 (Termination).

5. Pro subscriptions, billing and cancellation

A Pro subscription gives you access to every card in every deck, including new decks added while you are subscribed, and to our community spaces described in Section 6. Current prices are shown on our Pricing page.

  • Automatic renewal. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, in advance, and renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method each period.
  • Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number. Prices include any applicable sales tax, VAT or similar taxes; we pay them, not you.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from your account page, through Manage billing. Cancellation stops future renewals. You keep Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for.
  • Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, including for partially used periods, except as described in Section 13 or where required by law.
  • Price changes. We may change prices. We will tell you at least 30 days before a change applies to your subscription, and the new price will apply from your next renewal. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before then.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, our payment processor retries it for a limited time, and you keep Pro access while it does. If the payment still fails, your subscription is canceled and your account returns to the free plan.

6. Community: Discord and group calls

We may offer Pro subscribers a Discord community and live group calls with the founder. These are offered at our discretion. If your subscription ends, we remove you from the Discord server and you stop receiving group call links. Their schedule, format and availability may change, and we do not guarantee any specific amount of time or a response to every question.

  • Discord's and Zoom's terms apply. The server runs on Discord and the group calls run on Zoom, so their own terms and privacy policies also apply to your use of them.
  • Be respectful. No harassment, hate speech, spam, self-promotion without permission, or sharing other members' personal information.
  • Not professional advice. Guidance shared in the community or on calls is general information and personal opinion. It is not career, legal or financial advice.
  • Recordings. We do not record group calls, and you may not record them without the consent of everyone on the call.

We may remove you from community spaces if you break these rules.

7. Acceptable use

You may use the Service only for your own personal study. You agree not to:

  1. Copy, scrape, download in bulk, export or republish cards or other content, including by automated means.
  2. Share, resell or redistribute cards, screenshots of answers, or access to your account.
  3. Use the content to build a competing product or to train or improve an AI or machine-learning model.
  4. Get around unlock limits, paywalls, rate limits or other access controls, including by creating multiple free accounts.
  5. Reverse engineer, probe or attack the Service, or interfere with its operation or other users' access.
  6. Use the Service for anything unlawful, or to cheat on a live assessment where outside help is prohibited.

We may investigate suspected violations and take action under Section 13.

8. Intellectual property

We or our licensors own the Service and its content, including the cards, their questions and answers, the learning path, the software, the design and the Mastering SWE name and logo. These are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws.

While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to view and study the content you have access to, for your own non-commercial use. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

Some cards describe or show code from third-party languages, frameworks and libraries. Those names and trademarks belong to their owners, and their use here does not imply endorsement.

9. Feedback and your content

If you send us suggestions, corrections or ideas, such as reporting an error in a card, we may use them freely without paying you or crediting you.

You keep ownership of anything you post in community spaces, such as Discord messages. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display and share it within the Service and community for the purpose of running them. You are responsible for what you post, and you must have the right to post it.

10. Third-party services and links

The Service relies on and links to services we do not control, such as our payment processor, Google and GitHub sign-in, Discord, Zoom, the learning resources linked from our learning paths, and websites cited as sources (for example salary or job-market data). We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. Your use of them is governed by their own terms.

11. No guarantee of results

Mastering SWE is an educational study aid. We do not promise that using it will get you an interview, pass an assessment, earn a job offer, or reach any salary or career outcome. Results depend on you, your background, employers and the job market.

Salary, hiring and job-market figures on our site come from third-party sources. They are shown for general context, may be out of date, and are not a prediction of what you will earn.

We work to keep cards accurate, but they may contain errors or become out of date as languages and tools change. Check important details against official documentation. If you find a mistake, please tell us at rawswe@masteringswe.com.

12. Disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnification

Disclaimer. THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE.

Limitation of liability. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST WAGES, LOST JOB OPPORTUNITIES OR LOST DATA. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) US $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limits, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.

Indemnification. You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms or your misuse of the Service, to the extent allowed by law.

13. Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time. To delete your account, email us from the address on your account at rawswe@masteringswe.com. Deleting your account ends access to all cards, including free unlocks, and does not by itself cancel a paid subscription, so cancel that first.

We may suspend or close your account, or remove you from community spaces, if you materially or repeatedly break these terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Where reasonable, we will tell you why and give you a chance to fix the problem first. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid subscription.

Sections 8, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 15 continue to apply after your account ends.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

If you have a dispute with us, please contact rawswe@masteringswe.com first. We will try to resolve it informally within 30 days. If we cannot, either of us may bring a claim in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an eligible claim in small claims court.

If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place whose laws give you the right to bring claims in your local courts, nothing here takes that right away.

15. Changes, general terms and contact

Changes to these terms. We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, cancel and stop using the Service.

General. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. If we do not enforce a term right away, we have not waived it. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may transfer them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Neither of us is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control.
